Check Out

To check out an item, bring it to the Access Services desk along with your valid Library Card and VSKU ID. Items that are not checked out at the desk will trigger the security alarm.

Loan Periods

The regular loan period for most books is 2 weeks for PG students and one semester for Research Scholars, staff, and faculty. Circulation periods for other materials, such as juvenile books and microfilm, are determined by the individual library. Since circulation periods vary, always be sure to notice when an item is due at the time you check it out.

Overdue Notices

Library materials become overdue if not returned by the due date. An overdue notice is usually sent as a courtesy reminder. Note: You are responsible for returning borrowed items on time whether or not you receive a notice.

Different kinds of materials have different check out periods and different fine schedules. These loan periods and fine schedules are published in the VSKU Library Policies, Rules and Regulations which is available at VSKU website. Fines accrue during all hours the library is open, including holidays. Questions or problems about a particular fine may be directed to the Access Services desk at the loaning library.

If material is needed beyond the original loan period it must be renewed. Material may be renewed at a VSKU Libraries Access Services desk, in person. Note that recalls placed on items could keep you from renewing them.

Reference Reserves

Heavily used items and those requested by instructors for assigned class reading are kept on reference reserve. Because of the demand for these items, loan periods for reserves are shorter and fine rates are higher.
